The Utah CSD Launches a Medical Cannabis Search Function for Users
Salt Lake City — The Utah Department of Commerce’s Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) has launched a new medical cannabis purchase information search function for authorized users of the Controlled Substance Database (CSD).
The new system update, effective June 24, 2026, allows controlled substance dispensers and providers to verify patient medical cannabis card information and view the day-after dispensing history from the Electronic Verification System (EVS). The medical cannabis flag will still appear, but this new module will provide the sales history.
Patient Medical Cannabis Search & Sales History Guide
Follow these steps to search for a patient’s medical cannabis card information and view their dispensing history.
Initial Search
- Toggle the system switch to Medical Cannabis Dispensing
- Enter the patient’s Last Name, First Name (partials accepted), and Date of Birth (required).
- Adjust the date range, if necessary. Note: The system defaults to a one-year lookback period.
- Click Submit to search.
Review Card Information
The search results will display any matching patient’s card details with the following columns:
• Patient Name
• Date of Birth
• Card Number
• Card Status
• Effective Date
• Expiration Date
View Dispensing History
- Click the row with the matching patient’s name to view their sales history. Note: It may take a few moments for the system to retrieve the records and compile the data associated with the patient.
- Once loaded, the dispensing screen will display the following information:
- Patient Name
- Date of Purchase
- Dosage Type
- Quantity
- Flower Dosage
- Composite Dosage
- Facility Name
- Provider Name
- NPI
Other Actions
- You can then choose the Print Summary, which will generate the CSD Patient MC Purchases Report and display:
- Patient Name
- Date of Purchase
- Dosage Type
- Quantity
- Total Flower
- EVS Total Composite
- Facility
- Provider Full Name
- NPI
- Click Back to Search to go back to the Medical Cannabis Search screen.
- Click Back to go back to the previous screen or the list of matching card holders.
