Avicanna Launches MyMedi.ca Integrated Healthcare Program in Canada

Integrating MyMedi.ca healthcare provider-guided medical cannabis care into hospitals, specialty clinics, insurers and multidisciplinary healthcare networks in Canada

TORONTO, Sept. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Avicanna Inc. (“Avicanna” or the “Company”), a commercial-stage international biopharmaceutical company focused on cannabinoid-based medicines, is pleased to announce the MyMedi.ca Integrated Healthcare Program (“Program”), a new program designed to integrate medical cannabis care and patient support into Canadian healthcare institutions and clinical networks.

The program extends the MyMedi.ca platform beyond traditional medical cannabis and referral channels and is intended to support hospitals, specialty clinics, multidisciplinary healthcare networks, insurers and other healthcare organizations seeking to incorporate structured medical cannabis pathways into their existing models of care. The Program extends access to a focused medical cannabis formulary, pharmacist-led patient support, healthcare provider (HCP) treatment planning and education as well as reimbursement and insurance.

“An important next step in the evolution of medical cannabis is furthering integration and access within established healthcare environments,” said Aras Azadian, Chief Executive Officer of Avicanna. “Building on a decade of research and collaboration with the Canadian medical community, this new Program further supports hospitals, clinics and healthcare networks, with the specialized infrastructure and support to incorporate medical cannabis into existing models of care. For patients, this opens additional access to HCP-led care, individualized treatment support and insurance coverage with the aim of improving treatment outcomes.”

Building on MyMedi.ca's Established Infrastructure and Proven Healthcare Integration
The Program builds on Avicanna’s work with leading Canadian hospitals, healthcare institutions and medical professionals on clinical research and cannabinoid access. This includes the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre pilot, which brought medical cannabis support into an established oncology setting and helped refine the patient pathways, educational frameworks and support models behind the program.

Addressing a Gap in Medical Cannabis Access
Medical cannabis use in Canada extends well beyond patients in the federally regulated medical access framework, with Health Canada’s 2024 Canadian Cannabis Survey reporting that only 18% of Canadians using cannabis for medical purposes did so with a medical document from a healthcare professional. This points to a gap in medically guided care, with many patients potentially managing symptoms without structured treatment planning, product and dosing guidance, medication review, reimbursement support or ongoing clinical follow-up.

The Company believes this integrated approach is designed to broaden access to HCP-guided medical cannabis care while maintaining continuity with patients' existing providers and supporting responsible, evidence-informed use. The Program may be implemented across several models, including:

  • Hospital and institutional cannabinoid care programs
  • Specialty and multidisciplinary clinic partnerships
  • Integrated referral and patient-support pathways
  • Insurer and payer-supported patient programs
  • Healthcare-professional education and training
  • Real-world evidence and research collaborations
